Peter Kaufman is the son of Philip Kaufman, who directed Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Right Stuff and Henry & June among other films.

Uma Thurman played the part of June Miller, wife of playwright Henry Miller, in the Oscar-nominated film, Henry & June. The film is based on a novel by Anais Nin. Peter Kaufman produced the film, while his father was the director and his mother, Rose, was a screenwriter.

Rose Kaufman was also a screenwriter for The Wanderers, which was directed by Philip Kaufman. Olympia Dukakis, cousin of 1988 presidential candidate Mike Dukakis, had a small part in The Wanderers.
