Doyle, who had served as Clinton’s campaign manager until leaving the post in February, will be chief of staff to Obama’s yet-to-be-named VP running mate.

The announcement today wasn’t a complete shock. Solis Doyle and David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political strategist, publicly confirmed last month that they had talked about a potential role for her.

Nor are Solis Doyle’s political connections limited to her former job on the Clinton campaign. Her brother, Daniel Solis, is president of the Chicago City Council. Her husband, Jim Doyle, is SVP at Penn Shoen and Berland, where Mark Penn, former Clinton strategist, is president.
