Certainly not by politics. Damon is a supporter of Barack Obama, while North is a conservative commentator on the Fox network.
Like North, Damon’s film character, Jason Bourne, often finds himself involved in foreign intrigue with high-powered weaponry.
But the real-life connection goes through Doug Liman, producer of the Bourne movie trilogy. Liman’s father, Arthur L. Liman, was a celebrated New York attorney whose clients included the fugitive financier Robert L. Vesco and junk bond king Michael R. Milken.
The elder Liman also served as chief counsel to the Senate committee investigating the Iran-Contra affair. North, then a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps, was the star witness at the committee hearings.
