Besides being a British knight and having just picked up an honorary degree from Yale University, former Beatle Paul McCartney can boast another establishment tie - a direct link to U.S. President George W. Bush.

McCartney’s latest girlfriend, American heiress Nancy Shevell, is legally separated from Bruce Blakeman, a longtime Republican politician from Long Island who was appointed a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey by former New York Gov. George Pataki. Blakeman’s brother, Bradley, is a friend and former aide to Bush, who left the White House to work for former U.S. Sen. Al D’Amato’s lobbying firm, Park Strategies, and then to head Freedom’s Watch, the conservative 537 group, from which he stepped down earlier this year.
Despite that connection, there is no indication that McCartney has embraced the U.S. president.
