Harrison Ford wants to save 40-year-old virgin forests

Harrison Ford, known for doing his own stunts, stepped in front of the camera for yet another daunting challenge: waxing his chest hair.

This feat wasn’t for entertainment purposes. It was a public service announcement for Conservation International, an organization Ford has been involved with for 15 years. He currently serves as a vice chairman of the board of directors.

The waxing serves as a metaphor for deforestation. As a huge chunk of hair is ripped from the actor’s chest, a serious-faced Ford tells viewers, “Every bit of rainforest that gets ripped out over there, really hurts us over here.”

The “Lost There, Felt Here” campaign focuses on the stabilizing effects that the rainforest has on the climate and prioritizes the role of rainforests in the discussion of global warming.

The PSA will be translated into five languages and broadcast globally.

Ford and Conservation International encourage a donation of $15, which they say is enough to protect one acre of rainforest.

The timing couldn’t be better. Ford’s latest stint as Indiana Jones hits theaters this weekend, and is expected to be a hit. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull also stars Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett and Karen Allen.
