Mariah Carey may or may not have married actor Nick Cannon on Wednesday. While many are buzzing that this may be a publicity stunt, (Carey’s latest album was released in late April), People magazine is now reporting that Carey obtained a marriage license in the Caribbean.

The couple has yet to make an official statement regarding their marital status.

The pair has been dating for fewer than two months, but the songstress was spotted with a large diamond ring on her engagement finger last week at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Romance between Carey and Cannon ignited after he appeared in her newest music video, “Bye Bye.”

Last month, Carey released her 18th number-one single, “Touch My Body,” off her new album E=MC2. She now comes in second place for the Billboard record for number-one singles released, surpassing Elvis Presley. The Beatles still top Carey with 20 top hits.

In contrast to Carey’s mega-star status, Cannon is known for his MTV show Wild N’ Out, and the movie Drum Line.

This is the second marriage for Carey. Her first, to former Sony BMG head Tommy Mottola, ended in 1997.

Cannon was previously engaged to Selita Ebanks, a model for Victoria’s Secret. They split in October, 2007.

Perez Hilton has reported rumors that the couple did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement.
