Tina Fey’s husband is bit player in 30 Rock, major player in her life

When Tina Fey walked the red carpet at the premiere of Baby Mama last week, the man at her side was a half-head shorter, considerably older and unknown to the paparazzi.

“Are you aware that Tina Fey’s husband looks like this?” wrote one blogger who posted a photo of the two of them.

In fact, Jeff Richmond, Fey’s husband of seven years, may have a low profile, but he is reportedly the power in her life, a composer and producer who encouraged Fey when she was a new-minted college graduate. When she arrived at Chicago’s Second City troupe from the University of Virginia in 1992, with little professional acting experience, Richmond was a director for the theater that had launched the careers of John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray and more recently, Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris

In an interview with AskMen, Fey joked that “until I met my husband, I could not get a date.” Seven years later, on June 3, 2001, the two married in a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding (Fey’s mother is Greek). Their daughter, Alice Zenobia Richmond, was born on September 10, 2005.

When Fey moved to New York to be a writer for Saturday Night Live, Richmond worked as a composer for the series. Besides composing the music for 30 Rock, he has also produced 19 episodes, and played a bit part as the TGS piano player.

Richmond also wrote the score for Baby Mama as well as for Fey’s previous movie, Mean Girls.
He has a recurring role on Late Night with Conan O’Brien as the Russian Hat Guy.

To date, Richmond has not talked publicly about his wife’s newfound celebrity.

just like to point out he didn’t write the music for mean girls.
Another thing is that if you listen to the music he makes for 30 rock you’d realize he kicks ass.

I agree, his music for 30 Rock does kick ass. Seriously, it’s making my inner band geek come out! LOL. If you listen to the background music during the show, it’s a lot of clarinet..I haven’t played clarinet in about 5 years but this freakin show is making me want to again.. Thanks a lot Jeff..ha
