Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are now business competitors. Yesterday Aniston announced she has created her own film production company, after splitting from Plan B Entertainment, which she founded with Pitt in 2004. The couple divorced in 2005.

Aniston has launched her new venture, Echo Films, with Kristin Hahn, her longtime collaborator at Plan B. Hahn was also the executive producer of 2007’s best picture, The Departed.
Echo Films is partnering with Universal Pictures in a first-look contract, meaning that Universal gets first dibs on films produced by Echo. Plan B, where Pitt is still a producer, has a first-look contract with Paramount.
Two projects slated for production at Echo Films, both starring Aniston, are based on the novels Getting Rid of Matthew and The Divorce Party. Striking close to home, both center on themes of marital strife and adultery.
Getting Rid of Matthew, a novel by Jane Fallon, tells the story of a woman trying to convince her lover to return to his wife.
Laura Dave’s The Divorce Party centers on a couple who decide to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary by throwing a party announcing their divorce.
Aniston told Variety about her vision for her productions, explaining: “We’re drawn to stories about people finding their voice and finding their way because they help us as listeners and viewers do what we feel we’re all trying to do, which is making sense of our lives through the stories of others.”
Plan B, in turn, produced A Mighty Heart, which starred Pitt’s partner Angelina Jolie.
Yesterday, Paramount announced the acquisition of the rights to David Grann’s manuscript Lost City of Z, which would be produced by Plan B. The manuscript tells the story of British explorer Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett. Pitt plans to take the leading role.
