Casting directors looking to fill the part of Karl Rove in a movie account of the second Bush presidency might turn to John Hodgman, the actor who plays “PC” in the Apple Inc. commercials.
There’s something of a physical resemblance, though Hodgman has more hair than the former presidential adviser.
Beyond that, everyone knows that all PC owners are Republican conservatives, like Rove. Mac owners are Democratic liberals. That’s just the way it is.
Or is it?
In a recent interview with Matthew Sheffield for Newsbusters.org, Rove admits to owning not just an Apple iPhone but also an Apple MacBook Air, the thin, ultra chic laptop.
Rove doesn’t say he’s about to sign on with the Obama campaign, but given this news, who would be surprised if he did?
And the man who has been called Bush’s Brain doesn’t seem afraid that his gadget/tech orientation will alienate his political base.
Indeed, he’s nothing but gushy when he talks about his iPhone.
“I love it. My life has changed. I have a shred of coolness,” Rove says with a bit of self-deprecation. “I’ve got 3,500 people in my address book on the phone. I can sync my calendar. I can keep track of my modest little stock investments.”
There’s more. The iPhone lets him keep track of the weather in Washington and Florida, as well as the weather where his son goes to school.
And beyond all of that he doesn’t have to lug around a 3,500-entry address book.
Impressed, Sheffield suggests that Rove should contact Apple CEO Steve Jobs and sign on as a spokesman.
“There we go, there we go,” Rove says, evidently warming to the idea. “And not only that. I also have the MacBook Air, which is really cool. Even my wife is jealous of my MacBook Air.”
Even his wife? Even half of Apple Nation, including those of us, who, like this writer, are typing on an unchic and ancient iBookG4, all the while trying to build a case for buying the MacBook Air, an impractical, expensive and absolutely necessary step into the future.
Rove does have some conservative company in his iLove.
Rush Limbaugh, the non-liberal talk show host, is a self-professed “big Mac guy.”
And he’s not afraid to use his program to get through to tech support.
Last month, Limbaugh let the world know, on air, that he was having problems with his new Macs.
Someone at Apple heard the complaint and put an engineer on the problem. Things were made right.
“Rush Limbaugh may not be Mac’s demographic, but he certainly could potentially influence the demo,” Ken Baker of E, the entertainment channel, told The New York Times. “You’d rather have celebrities with you than against you.”

I think this writer is a bit of a douchebag.These labels that the Liberals like to throw on everyone is just another form of bigotry that they are famous for.Not an Apple Fan as To me they are far worse then even Microsoft and far more hypocritical. i.e. Wall E spouts against commercialism while hawking Apple products through the whole movie.Typical Hypocrites.Osama and Gore woud be proud.Go Apple…………… to hell.
