Madonna was married to actor Sean Penn, whose father, TV actor and director Leo Penn, was an early member of the Hollywood blacklist.
Dalton Trumbo, a screenwriter and novelist, was a prominent member of the Hollywood Ten, a group of people in the movie industry who refused to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee.
Trumbo spent 11 months in prison. Like Leo Penn, he was blacklisted, and many of his subsequent screenplays went uncredited. By the 1960s, and 1970s, however, his name was appearing in the credits for films such as Spartacus, Exodus, Papillon Johnny Got His Gun.
He died in 1976.
