New Mexico governor Bill Richardson is endorsing Barack Obama for president.
Courted strongly by both Obama and Hillary Clinton since ending his own presidential run, Richardson was swayed by Obama’s speech this week about the country’s racial divide, The New York Times reports. Richardson had been trying to become the nation’s Hispanic president.
In a statement, Richardson said of Obama: “I believe he is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime leader that can bring our nation together and restore America’s moral leadership in the world.”
If Obama is successful in winning the Democratic nomination, some speculate that Richardson would make a strong running mate in November.
