How is industrialist Cornelius Vanderbilt linked to swashbuckling actor Douglas Fairbanks?

The late Carter Burden, former New York city councilman and owner of the Village Voice, was the great-great-great grandson of Vanderbilt. His mother was Fairbanks’ niece.

Carter’s ex-wife, Amanda Burden, chair of the New York City Planning Commission, is the daughter of Barbara “Babe” Paley, who was married to long-time CBS chairman William Paley.
