For Eliot Spitzer, Ashley Alexandra Dupre was the nail in his political coffin. For Girls Gone Wild founder and CEO Joe Francis, she is a “lottery ticket.”
Yesterday, Francis offered Dupre a $1 million deal to host his Girls Gone Wild Spring Break Tour and appear in the new Girls Gone Wild Magazine. To Francis’s surprise, his company already owned footage of Dupre, and he rescinded his offer.
Dupre was in Miami in 2003 to celebrate her 18th birthday, when she sought out the Girls Gone Wild van and spent a week filming seven full-length video tapes for Francis. She signed legal documents for Girls Gone Wild, giving the company the rights to the footage.
Upon finding out he had the tapes, Francis said, “It’ll save me a million bucks. It’s kind of like finding a winning lottery ticket in the cushions of your couch.”
Dupre became a household name after New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer stepped down from office when it was discovered that he was allegedly involved in the Emperor’s Club V.I.P. prostitution ring as Dupre’s client. Dupre was named as “Kristen” in court documents relating to the Emperor’s Club prostitution ring.
National interest in the scandal was so high, that on March 10, nine of the ten top Google searches of the day were Spitzer-related. Dupre’s Myspace page received over 5 million hits in the first few days her name was in the headlines. With such widespread interest, Francis and Girls Gone Wild could make a considerable amount of money from the 2003 tapes.
Content from the racy tapes, which include nudity and same-sex contact, is already available on Girlsgonewild.com. A video teaser on the website’s homepage promotes “Eliot Spitzer’s Hooker ‘Kristen,’” but those who want to view the full content need to register and pay the $29.87 membership fee for a month’s access.
Finding the footage of Dupre is the luckiest thing that has happened to Francis in some time. He recently served 11 months in a Nevada prison for tax evasion. After his release, he pleaded no contest to child abuse and prostitution charges in Florida for filming 17-year-old girls in the shower. He currently faces charges for misdemeanor sexual battery in California.
