Media and politics are in Grunwald genes

For generations of Grunwalds, media and politics have been the family business.

Mandy Grunwald is media consultant for the Hillary Clinton campaign and has previously worked on campaigns for Bill Clinton, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Patrick Leahy.

Her husband, Matthew Cooper, is Washington editor for Portfolio and a former writer for Time, U.S News & World Report and The New Republic. His name was in the news last year when he testified at the Lewis Libby trial.

Grunwald’s sister, Lisa Grunwald Adler, is a novelist and former features editor at Esquire. Lisa Grunwald’s husband, Stephen Adler, is editor of Business Week and former deputy managing editor of the Wall Street Journal.

Not surprisingly, the Grunwald sisters are the offspring of journalists. Their mother, Beverly Suser Grunwald, was a columnist for Women’s Wear Daily. Their father, Henry A. Grunwald, was editor-in-chief of Time and U.S. ambassador to Austria.

Mandy Grunwald probably has achieved the greatest financial success plying the family trade. According to reports filed by Clinton, her firm has collected $2.3 million from the campaign, and is owed another $240,000.

Mandy Grunwald interned at J. Walter Thompson in the early/mid 1970’s in the Public Relations Department. Her job was as an assistant to the head of the Broadcast department of the Public Relations Division. She was an outstanding and very successful participant in placing client reps on talk shows and helping to arrange press attendance for Press Conferences.
