Alan Schwartz’s predecessor as CEO of Bear Stearns spent too much time on the golf course and at the bridge table, critics say.

That shouldn’t be the case for Schwartz, named to the top spot this week. Besides his demanding job, Schwartz is very involved in philanthropy and community affairs.

He is a trustee of the American Foundation for AIDS Research, a director at the influential Robin Hood Foundation, the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and the Partnership for New York City, and vice chair of MENTOR, which links mentors and young people. Schwartz is also a member of the board of visitors at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke.

Not much time for play with that schedule.
