The dramatic rise of the hedge fund is being seen not only in the worlds of business, politics and government, but in philanthropy. One of the best examples is the Robin Hood Foundation,, a nonprofit fighting poverty in New York City.
Although the board includes luminaries such as Diane Sawyer, Gwyneth Paltrow and Tom Brokaw, most members come from the investment world. Directors include Paul Tudor Jones of Tudor Investment, Steven Cohen of S.A.C. Capital Advisors and Marie-Josee Kravis, wife of Henry.
The organization’s strategy reflects the focus of its leaders. Robin Hood’s approach is to “attack the source, add value and get results.” All administrative costs are paid by the board members.
